Well, guys it's time to say goodbye to the FSTE blog. It's been a great year and I'm happy to know that I've helped several people, because really that's what it's all about. As of late, I have made the choice to solely focus on Blooming Rose now. And be on the look out for my vlogs. It's not all bad though, I will still be posting "the goods" like job opportunities and such on the Facebook group and Myspace page, so you might want to check those frequently. I want to thank my devoted readers and God bless you all.

Ciao! Lately, I've been thinking about "vlogging" (video blogging) in addition to this blog. Vlogging is much more quantifiable than blogs I did a vlog for the first time which was basically on the handbag epidemic I wrote about last week. I feel like it was weird and I wasn't really relaxed. So I might do another one and get a little more comfortable with it.

TAKASHI MURAKAMI ROCKS

So, I saw the Murakami show at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Little Tokyo-Los Angeles and it was fantastic! He is amazingly talented! I mean his pieces were amazing! I love that
he takes risks in art. I believe in art, you can fully express yourself without restrictions, and it evolves into perfection/ not so perfection that everyone yearns to see. It ranged from sculpture to painting and animation. There was lots to see and full of inspiration. I strongly encourage anyone who is in the area to see the exhibit.

Let's Discuss Fashion

Ciao bellas and bellos! I cant believe that I go back to FIT in basically 2 weeks. I think that's insane. Damn, I better get my mind right. So I'm excited, because in my Italian class I met a fab design major who is now my friend who has impeccable style herself. I took it upon myself to ask her some questions so that my readers get a quick peep into the life of a fashion design student at FIT.

HYE MIN KANG ROCKS!!

1. Your pieces are amazing and full of volume, what is the process like?
It takes quite a long time. Usually my inspiration came from nature--like the blowing of wind, a sunrise or sunset. So I try to show these movements in my clothes.

2. What designer would you kill to design for?
I love and respect all fashion designers. Especially, Alexander Mcqueen, Zac Posen and Anna Sui are my favorite designers. my design is mixing of avant garde/vintage/girly. So I would like to design for any of these designers.

3. What do you think your market is?
My market is for girls from 18 to 27, who know who they are and what they want.

4. Do you eventually want to have your own label?
Yes! Of course! My dream is open a store with my sister who studies cosmetic science. I design clothes and she makes cosmetics. I already made my label name too.

5. What was the interview process like to get into FIT? I heard it’s pretty tough.
I am an international student. I was outside of USA. I wasn't required to do the interview. They focussed more on my portfolio.

6. Are you excited for Fusion. Share with the FSTE readers what Fusion is.
I am so excited!!! Fusion is a competition between F.I.T and Parsons. It is held annually. Fifteen specially selected designers from each school.

7. What factors do you think the FSTE readers should consider when purchasing clothes?
If it makes you feel happy, buy it and enjoy!

EXPENSIVE FASHION IS SO LAST YEAR

While I was on FashionIndie.com, something went off in me as I read about the Foley + Corinna Country tote made of burlap and coffee bean sacks for the ridiculous price of $444. I felt that it was imperative that I write about my reactions regarding this. I am big on affordable fashion as long as it is quality and looks expensive. I'm huge on quality, but not on price. I think the fact that a handbag made up of burlap and coffee bean sacks which cost's almost nothing to make is so damn expensive is utterly ridiculous. The funny thing is that IGNORANT people will spend it. People will skip a car payment or rent for that handbag, or any other overpriced/not-that-cute handbag for that matter.

I feel as young people/students we must watch our money and not get wrapped up in the cutesy ads and spending too much for good fashion. Even I fall into this dreadful trap. Great fashion and clothes is everywhere at a reasonable price. We have to be able to allocate our money right. It's a learning process. We must prove that they (fashion companies and magazines)can't just put all this stuff in our face and expect us to run out aimlessly as fashion victims to the nearest high-end boutiques. This year, my goal for us is to be smarter with our money, take control and be fashion leaders.

New Beginnings

Hey people! Sorry I haven't written anything substantial lately, but I'm back now! With lots of goodies to share. I know most of you are on break as I am. So, are you all ready for what 2008 will bring? I know I am! This a huge year for me. I will be launching Blooming Rose and don't worry FSTE will still be in motion. I want to thank all of my readers for tuning into my blog for the past year. 2007 was a great year for FSTE! And 2008 will be filled with love from me to you with tons of opportunities, so be on the look out!

I HAD NO IDEA MODELS LOVED CAKE???

This men's clothing line called Cake Clothing is sooo killer! I found this line while skimming Hypebeast and fell in love! Man sometimes I just wish I was a dude...just so I can wear some of the clothing. Because if I wear stuff like that...I usually end up looking like I'm about 15...which sucks since I already have a young face.

The only thing I know about them is that they're New York based. I haven't seen anyone clad in Cake tees which is good because it keeps the brand exclusive. And fellas you won't look like everyone else wearing a graphic tee.

DC FASHION STAND UP

I've been to D.C. twice and I can say that there are many fashionistas/os running around there. Everyone does they're own thing...sort of like New York, but with a twist. I recently found out that there's a DC Fashion Week, which is cool. There is more to American fashion than just New York and LA. We need to explore other metropolitan cities for fashion influences like Chicago, Atlanta, etc. I'm sure fashion would be much more exciting than it is now.

Last nite I attended this fabulous event for the New Balance Inside Collection, hosted by DDC Lab and iD magazine. It was def for the grown, sexy and stylish crowd. Nice venue and not too packed. The drinks were pretty tasty as well. Me and my girl sipped Bacardi + Red Bull + orange juice mixes as we intertwined in conversation. It was a great place to network. I missed hitting up events, living that Uber life...it has been a while since school got hyped and I was grinding.

Tis The Season Fashion Students

Most of us still remain in the stress that is finals (unfortunately), and working and etc., etc., etc. Along with deciding what to purchase for our loved ones. And whether we have enough money to purchase those items. None of this has anything to do with the season. I wonder when America will understand that it's not about giving gifts and realize that it's more about the heart and giving your time. Sharing precious moments with the people who matter most in your life, and remembering the birth of Jesus. So, my pat for this holiday is to soak it up and enjoy the little things that it brings. There is a lot to be thankful for, even if it doesn't appear to be. Ok, that's my sermon for the day.

COLOR THEORY

So Jason Jobson of the Fashion Rag blog of Pierce Mattie Public Relations went to Roma, Italy (ahhhh I can't wait!!) and saw tons of Red. It's very interesting...the whole theology of color. Supposedly the colors you choose to wear says a lot about you. At least that's what I've been hearing over the years. There's a whole psychology behind it. So what's the whole meaning behind why the people of Roma love red right now? And why are purple and electric blue the colors of the moment in American fashion? Basically the editors decide this. But why can't "I" choose "MY" color of the season? It's very difficult because the editors who choose the colors literally throw it at you; and and everywhere you look you see THAT color....and then you must have it. Funny. With this whole "Italy being in love with red" thing makes me think red is going to be the color of the moment next fall. Or is Italy just on their own thing. It makes so much sense that Italy's color is red. Red is the color of passion, and Italy is known for its passion. hmmmm....

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AT ITS BEST

I stumbled upon fashion photographer, Todd Anthony Tyler. I absolutely love his work! He's from Ontario, Canada and has traveled the world taking mouth-watering photos. He obtained his BS in biology and anthropology at Trent University. Amazingly, he was based in Singapore from 2002-2005! His clients have stretched between Vogue, Prestige, McDonald's, Ports and Elle.

I love the cleanness and edginess of his photography.

Sorry so late guys! I've been incredibly busy with work, Blooming Rose and school. It's a very hectic schedule for me right now, but still living each moment to the fullest (or at least trying to)...so please be patient with me guys! : )

So, Tonight after an eventful/uneventful work day at Custo I attended the YOUNITY-Stylez, Ideaz & Skillz Crossover event...which was o-so-cool at the Showroom Gallery in NYC. The street art was amazing; simply because it's all female artists! And the best part was the sparkling pink complimentary drink called NUVO for Her. It's a sparkling Vodka liqueur that has a fruity and not too alcohol-ly taste. I'm obsessed with pretty-in-pink drinks, so my face literally lit up. I'll definitely be stocking up in NUVO at the house.

Most of the artists were New York and San Francisco based artists ranging from graffiti to mixed media and fine art. Please check out their movement..it's pretty inspiring.

On That NY Grind Again

Sorry for no post last week, I was really busy preparing for my weekend trip to DC and trying to get work done. I went to DC for Howard's homecoming festivities this weekend and had the time of my life! It was soooo good to get away and sleep in a comfy bed that can fit more than just me and my stuffed tiger. I advise anyone who hasn't gone to an HBCU's homecoming to def go for the experience. The best thing is you meet lots of cool and interesting people. And now I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving break!

I think this quote is very important for fashionistas, especially student fashionistas. In all seriousness, most fashion-student gurus cannot truly afford to consistently be decked out in the highest quality, trendiest pieces as soon as they come out. And most likely that's not who you are, or at least it's not projecting who you are....your personal style. We need to really explore what our personal style is, despite what the trends are or what is "in" right now. Really tap into your likes and dislikes, and buy pieces that fit the mold YOU created. Number 1, you'll save money! Number 2, you'll be able to purchase high-quality items because you know most likely, you're going to wear it for a long time because you absolutely LOVE it! Ms. Westwood is right. We need to stop consuming for a minute, and meditate on pieces we loved throughout the years...NOT just liked.

Los Angeles Fashion Week kicks of in two days! October 12- 18, LA Fashion Week Spring 2008 at Smashbox Studios is in full effect, packed with wonderfully talented L.A.-esque designers. This is my fav fashion week (I know...call me crazy)! I like NY fashion week and I like all of the European fashion weeks, but L.A. fashion week is my baby. I like it because it's interesting and lots of indie-ness going on. And of course because it's my hometown!

[PRESS RELEASE] CHIC CHICAGO: COUTURE TREASURES FROM THE WINDY CITY FLY TO THE MUSEUM AT FIT

Visitors to The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will have a rare opportunity this fall to view 50 examples of haute couture from the Chicago History Museum. Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures from the Chicago History Museum, on display October 12 through January 5, will showcase fashions ranging from Gilded Age gowns of the 19th century by Worth and Pingat to modern masterpieces by Chanel, Vionnet, and Chicago's own greats, Mainbocher and Charles James, who opened his first hat shop there in 1926 at the age of 19.

"The wealth of haute couture in this collection testifies to the style of generations of Chicagoans," said Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of The Museum at FIT. Highlights include a black velvet Balenciaga evening gown worn by Clare Booth Luce; an off-white silk crepe wedding dress trimmed with lace, net, and silver lamé by Lanvin, worn by Mrs. Robert McCormick Adams, wife of the publisher of the Chicago Tribune; and several lavishly embroidered Callot Soeurs dresses from the wardrobe of Mrs. Potter Palmer II, artist, social leader, philanthropist, and wife of Potter Palmer II.

Other highlights of the exhibition include a white velvet Chanel evening gown with rhinestones and crystal bead trim worn by Mrs. C. Phillip Miller, granddaughter of George Pullman, inventor of the Pullman railroad car; and a red silk taffeta Dior cocktail dress, worn by the choreographer and dancer Ruth Page.

Rugby Is So Much More Than A Sport

Ok, so it is just me that is super thrilled that Rugby Ralph Lauren finally has a website? It's about time! I understand about maintaining exlusivity (mostly to the elite of chic college students) ...most people don't even know about Rugby if their not living not only residing in a metropolitan city, but the RIGHT metro city. Also, they will be opening the San Francisco store pretty soon! The catch to the Rugby site is that you can't shop online. WACK! But the site is very interactive; including a style guide and you are still able to view the collection.

FIT Event

This friday at 7pm-11pm, FIT is hosting a fashion show called "LASO" that will showcase a collection from Triple Five Soul. There will be free food and giveaways! It doesn't get better than free food baby! The show will be located in the A building lounge on the 8th floor. And I don't think it excludes non-FIT students, but I am not 100% sure. But its worth a shot to stop by, mingle and enjoy a great show!

Metro Men Are In. No?

Ciao folks! I feel like I've finally settled down in my NY life again. Ok...so an update on Blooming Rose my website--you can see a preview by going to myspace.com/bloomingroserocks. It should be up and running by December, maybe earlier.

So, as I said in last weeks post, this week would be devoted to the men. And I always keep my promises. So featured today are a few menswear t-shirt designers that I feel are hot.

Blacktooth

Now I like Blacktooth, although they are far out with some of the sayings on their tees (you'll see when u check out the site). I love that the label still emobodies a particular look or lifestyle. It's very european/rocker chic. The designer/creator of Blacktooth goes by the name of Carey Haider who is pretty interesting himself.

Temple Effectives

Very interesting tees and hoodies. This label has more of an urban/hip hop feel to it. The patterns and choice of contrasting colors are hypnotizing--that word must have hit me from staring at the Biggie Rosette tee. Along with checking the website, check out the myspace page which is set to private: add the label.

Glen Quest

Cool name huh? This designer goes by GQ...haha. He's a New York designer that is making a name for himself in the New York streets. He has a very cool line of tees for both men and women. I can definitely see Macy's picking up this line very soon. I see a preium denim line in the future as well.

So I have some exciting news! I am creating a shopping website called Blooming Rose..hence the fab logo above. The site will be dedicated to the glam/rock look for women.. You know, diamonds and guitars...beautiful leather handbags with gleaming hardware and jewelry that makes great conversation pieces...yea that's what it's all about.

I'm finally back in the NYC! It's been a whirlwind since I stepped foot out of that cab on 31st street. But, it has been fun none the less. My dorm room... it's cute and I love that I get to cook my own food! I'm kind of a health freak even though sometimes I slip up and grab a Micky D's cheeseburger and fries. But at least I try, right? But anywho, I'm extremely excited that I am taking Italian this semester. I'm such a nerd, because I love to learn new things.

So as you all know, Spring 2008 Fashion Week is next week from September 5-12 here in New York City! Well, there is another fashion week as well, called Nolcha Fashion Week that is also on the same dates. Nolcha is a smaller fashion week that puts a few, but great designers who are not as known to the forefront. Nolcha also allows the audience to be an active participant with many seminars, workshops, as well as a competition. A Few Words of Wisdom

Hola folks! My cruise to Cabo was fabulous and so much fun. And now I'm really ready to go back to the NYC...enough of LA...I need a fresh background or a "refreshed" background.

This blog will feature tips that you won't get from a magazine, your grandparents or high school/college counselor, that will make your school year the best it can be or sh** maybe even your year.

1. you know how we dress ourselves to feel fabulous and present ourselves to the world to represent who we are. Well...there's something that's even more important... dressing your spirit! Every morning check in with yourself and see where your head is at. Once you step out the door...make sure a good spirit is shinning through.

2. Let go of the drama! If there is something brewing inside with a situation..let it go and move on. If there are people continuing to cause drama in your life...let them go. And move on.
3. Buy it in every color! If you're about to purchase something you really love, just go ahead and buy every color you like. Trust me you'll thank yourself later. Especially when you end up looking for something similar later on. (had to throw at least one fashion tip)

4. Be in your own world! Sometimes it's ok to tune everyone and everything out to do you...especially if you're a creative person.

5. Party! School is stressful and dammit life can be stressful. So try to party at least once a month...trust me you'll feel so much better. It's such a release when you're just dancing, letting loose and having a good time. It gives you a momentary escape.

6. Do something outside of school or the norm that you're passionate about! This can give you a break from your demanding/monotonous schedule.

7. Last, but not least...just smile...even if it hurts to do so.

Hello my peoples! Omg...I cant believe it's like 10 days till I head back to school...AAHH! I'm sooo not ready. lol But I am ready for Cabo!!! I'm bout to get some much needed R&R. Which I'm sure will be good for my mind, body soul and complexion lol

ok...so I've began promoting for POSHGLAM.COM (which means I have to insert this plug lol). It is a fresh blog site that was started by a talented woman by the name of Kimberly Stone out of Atlanta. But POSHGLAM is not merely a blog, but it's a brand all its own. There is POSHGLAM Public Relations in which the firm focuses on all things beauty, fashion and philanthropy. Now I know I've been focusing a lot on L.A. fashion since I've been home, but it just goes to show L.A. has much fashion talent, it's just that most of it's undiscovered by the "right" people. So speaking of...a friend of mine put me up on this line called Clothesline By Diaz. Well, This designer is def not underrepresented. Her line is mostly carried in Madison stores across L.A. and Barneys. In the words of Biggie, "If you don't know, now you know!"

I know I don't usually do beauty, but every now and then when I find something I like exceptionally. I have to share with others. I was in a Bath & Body works flagship store and I stumbled across the the perfect luxurious and sweet smelling body wash (oops...I mean body syrup. That sounds much better than body wash) ever created. It's Jaqua's Butter Cream Frosting Body Syrup. It's perfect because it's basically happiness in a bottle and it's not strong at all so you can layer the scent with the lotion as well.

Hey loves! Well I have about two weeks left and I'm back in NY grinding...but before I go back, one more getaway is in order....Cabo here I come!! So you know what that means...there will be an early blog post next week.

Trendy Trash and I personally love the name haha. I have been meaning to mention them so I'm glad it came to me again, because their stuff is mucho fire. Trendy Trash is a guys lifestyle brand that I know will soon take off. Take a look at the pieces:

So Fashion Bloggers Are Fashionisers?

Hola! It's midweek and I have been maxing and relaxing. I'm trying to make the most out of this summer before I begin grinding again in New York. I refuse to be stressed out and worried this fall. So I'm providing an early post this week because I'm going to Vegas in a couple of days!! Yay!

On to more fashionable things...

So what is a verb that means to socialize fashionably? FASHIONISING. My friend put me on Fashionising.com where you can network, put up porfolios, read up on trends, search jobs, comment in forums, and recieve newsletters. All you have to do is become a member. Don't worry it's FREE...I know you guys became a little scared there.

Also, a young designer (young meaning still in high school) starting out who I met on facebook by the name of Jamilah just finished a dazzling cocktail dress that I absolutely love. But I'm biased simply because I love leopard print, so you must look for yourself!

Summer school is over!! Yaaay!!! I am still in Los Angeles having fun. At first, I was ready to go back to N.Y., but L.A. has picked itself up again...and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Although, I am looking forward to going back to N.Y.

Speaking of the fabulous N.Y., The School of Visual Arts (SVA) is having an exhibition titled, "Everything I Do Always Comes Back To Me" ---great theme huh?

It will showcase paintings, sculpture, photography, digital art, cartooning and 3-D digital design until August 22. So basically there is something for everyone and I'm sure it's a great source of inspiration. All of the pieces are by SVA faculty and alumni regarding the "conflict, compassion and the Buddhist ethic." It is curated by designer Milton Glaser. Check the link for more info. Forget A Website, Just Get A Myspace Page

Hola my peoples! The week is almost over...thank God! I only have one more week of macroeconomics and I'm done!! Yay!! Before I get into what's going on, I must say the Libertine for Go International for Target is fabulous. Saw some of the stuff yesterday while running errands. Must must check it out.

Ok everyone knows by now that if you have a website for your business venture, you probably have an accompanying Myspace page right? Of course you do! Why, because it's a great marketing and networking tool. But there are a few that bypass the website thing all together....and just use Myspace. I think it's a pretty good idea....at least untill you get your website up...something to think about. I mean Myspace has launched some people's careers. So I guess it is more than "a place for friends."

I Just Love A Good Tee

Hello Loves, I know I have been MIA, but a lot has been going on, so be patient with me. I found out I will be headed to Vegas in August and I am thrilled because I am in need of an awesome vacation to rejuvenate me. Anywho on to the fashion goods.

Plain Jane Couture is a fabulously provocative and chic casual label, carrying mostly t-shirts for both men and women. The designers, Manku and Zoum are a male Montreal based twosome seeking a name for themselves in this vast fashion world.

The 80's Is In Full Effect

Hola loves! No more songs as blog titles...I'm just over that now. So it's a lot of fashion stuff going on folks, so I'll get into the most juiciest stuff first. O yea! The blogs are gonna be pretty short the month of July--this online macroeconomics class is the most.

I am extremely excited with this H&M and Roberto Cavalli collabo! This is the first time H&M will showcase an Italian designer. Cavalli's line at H&M will consist of 25 pieces in the women's collection (including lingerie) and 20 pieces in the men's collection. I cannot wait for it to hit stores, because I will definitely be copping it. Cheap chic is cool. So be on the look out November 8th 2007 in H&M stores.

Last night I attended the Reebok 25th Freestyle Anniversary on Melrose in Los Angeles and it was mucho fun. The theme was 80's and you could come decked out in 80's attire. The displays were amazing and super colorful, along with MJ's, "Thriller" flowing out the speakers...the party was heaven in my eyes. And the shoe designs....KILLER! Now, here's some inspiration for my fashion junkies:

I Like The Bartender

T-Pain really cracks me up with his songs, but I still groove to them. And "Bartender" is actually pretty creative, especially compared to most of these hip hop songs today that aren't creative at all, besides the engineering. I mean you never here a song talking about macking to the bartender.

I want to take a moment of silence for my cat Josie who unexpectedly got a tumor over her heart and had to be put down. She was truly a ride-or-die cat. So pray for the pain the resides in my heart for her.

I think this might be a pretty dark post. No, I promise the mood gets lighter. Of course, as someone or thing dies, someone or thing is birthed or created. Designer Gianfranco Ferre died at 62 last Sunday. He was widely known as "the architect of fashion" for Christian Dior. Now on to something a little easier on the mind. Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in NYC plans to give birth to a new home for the flagship Gucci store. Be on the look out for it in 2008, and I'm sure it will be luxuriously beautiful.

Let It Go

So I guess my girl Keyshia Cole is back in full effect with "Let It Go". Missy and Lil Kim laced the track as well. And it's actually a song you could do a slow groove to in the club.

So if you remember in the previous post, I mentioned the launch party for the new Los Angeles label, Pink Panties. Well I did an interview with the fabulous Rahiel, designer of Pink Panties. She gave me the inside scoop about her business, balancing school and work, as well as her key to living life to the fullest.

I can't believe you're 20 years old and have this business. How long has Pink Panties been around?

~It has been in my head since I was a young child, I cant even remember how long! I did all my research while I was in High School so I could start it right away! But as far as taking major steps I would say for early 2004.

How has business kicked off so far?

~Business is good so far. I have had a few customers. The website is brand new so hopefully people catch on quick.

I know you're in school as well. What school do you currently attend?

~I was attending Los Angeles Trade Tech for Fashion Design for a year and a half. I then went to Chaffey College and took some business classes for one year. I plan on going back to Trade Tech this fall to finish my Fashion Design degree.

How do you balance school and creating and managing Pink Panties?

~School comes first because everything I learn in my classes helps me with Pink Panties. I always find a way to relate what the topics are in class to what I am doing or will be doing in running my business. It makes school more interesting! I stay up late on most nights dealing with Pink Panties. Its hard but I love it. If it were easy, any one would do it.

I love how you mention on your website about being positive and visualizing positive images? How do you exercise this?

~The more positive you are the more happy you are with yourself. You cant think negative all the time. In my personal life and in running Pink Panties I always look at the positive side of things. I think that if everything that doesn't turn out right, it is an experience and I learn from it.

Do you plan on opening a store or boutique for Pink Panties in the future?
~I would love to open more than one boutique for Pink Panties which will include a bakery! Whats better than eating and shopping?! First I will try to become a supplier to Nordstrom stores.

How does the partnership with American Apparel work?

~American Apparel is great quality. I buy wholesale from them and get the products screen printed with my designs and logo locally. I find it easy because they already manufacture the basic things I needed and they do everything in house.

What would you tell someone wanting to start an e-business?

~It might sound and look easy but be careful. The website has to look great and professional depending on what you will be selling. Before you give your money to a web designer make sure you have seen previous work. Explain in detail what you want and explore your options.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I love this song by Shop Boyz. This is definitely going to be a personal anthem of mine for the summer. T-t-totally dude!!! haha.

Ok, this summer being back home has been so far so good. I really can't complain. I am thoroughly enjoying myself.

So I crept upon a niche accessories label in Italy called Babbu designed by Cristina Onofri, and their stuff is awesome on the eyes. What makes this company so individual is they put funny little people cut-outs on their bags. I am absolutely in love with their difficult to duplicate accessories. The pieces are head-turners and conversations starters. Babbu knows how to mix and match patterns and fabrics in an unusual, but chic manner.

First and foremost, I have to say that Eve is fire right now, and so is her look. And of course Swizz Beats laced Tambourine with that booty-popping beat. I really hope Eve's album is a banger!

There's a lot of good things going on for FSTE, for one did you see the new logo!? A very talented friend Hugga created it, and I will be showcasing more of his talent later in this blog. So you must keep reading after this point. In addition, to the logo there is an FSTE myspace page! Yay!! So this means that the FSTE myspace group will be replaced by the myspace page. This page will help FSTE be better than it already is, so please add yourselves to the myspace page.

Back to the homie, Hugga. He graduated with an animation degree from FIT, and his senior thesis is fabulous. It's a cartoon he created called Huggaman. He was mentioned in a previous blog, and has debuted the first episode of "Yo Shorty!"

Yea...so...I absolutely love "Shook" by Lloyd ft. T.I. This is really a sweet song contrary to most r&b/hip hop songs. And what happened to straight R&B songs with out a rapper being featured. Geesh! I miss the 90's.

Before I begin my fashion log...I must say it feels good to be done with finals and be home in cali! I feel like I am really on vacation, not just because it's summer and I'm getting away...but helloooo! It is Los Angeles. lol Familiarity is good. I feel like I've been out of touch with news and what not since I haven't really had time to "check up on it." But I know a little about what's going on. I always keep my eyes and ears open no matter where I am so....on to fashion...

I was watching Oprah yesterday and Sarah Jessica Parker was on the show discussing her new clothing line called Bitten that will be sold exclusively at Steve & Barry's. I love to see people have passion for what they do and she definitely excuded a lot of passion, and who is better than the Sex & The City style icon herself to create this business venture. She is bringing more to the table than what most designers are bringing. What is so terrific about her line is that everything is under $20 and made with quality fabrics. She believes good fashion does not have to be a luxury, and I agree. Every woman regardless of ethnicity, size, age, or income should be able to afford good clothing and feel good about herself. Another great attribute is that everything ranges from size 2-22. How awesome is that!?

She will be selling jeans, work attire, tops, skirts, dresses, coats, shoes, etc. Bitten will be launched June 7. Mass producing fashion is really huge right now and companys like H&M and Target are the ones that are making the big bucks, so I am sure consumers will jump on this, especially if her line is as high quality as she says it is.

Well folks this is the home stretch. Final exams, final projects, season finales, o my! Basically I've been grinding my behind off. And you know what they say, when something is ending, it's really the beginning of something new. I have a feeling this summer is going to crack---and when I mean crack, I mean the kind of crack brought by earthquakes. I crack myself up.

I don't know if any of you remember House of Boateng that came on the Sundance Channel--but it was a brief series in 2006 based on the extremely handsome british menswear designer, Ozwald Boateng. The show documented Boateng bringing his english tailoring to the United States. I missed the series myself, but you can watch the episodes on the website like I did.

I would really like to see him come out with another reality show of his own.

So I am super duper excited that Spidey Man 3 is out today and I'm seeing it on opening day! He is my favorite super hero! I am also super duper excited because I am going home in a couple of weeks. Hey guys! It's been a long week and it's an early post this week since I will be headed to Detroit, Michigan for FIT's Black Student Union bright and early tommorow morning. I think it will be fun...although I'd rather be in an exotic place, but anything that takes me out of New York City for a few days..I'm down for. I have 3 more weeks of grinding and then it's back to Cali Whoo hooo!! Seriously, I cannot wait!!

Ok, so I have some special websites to share with you guys.

One of my favorite authors and beauty gurus, Tia Williams' sister has a new blog out called Stereohyped--and it discusses issues in society, new music, fashion, beauty, etc. It is the "go to" place for everything you need to know to be on top of your "A" game.

Another website that most probably didn't believe still existed is Ellegirl.com. I found this out a couple of weeks ago and thought, "Wow, that's smart!" Most of you who are familiar with Ellegirl magazine knows that circulation ceased a few years ago (unfortunately). But not to fret, because the website is till running filled with tons of information. Which brings me to my next fabulous website--Graffiti Pink!

Graffiti Pink is an online boutique for intimates and lounge wear along with other cutsey things and it is sooo adorable. The owner is by the name of Jasmine Imani. She did an interesting and informative Q&A with Ellegirl.com.

I Just Want A B.U.D.D.Y.

...that song is awesome. So, this week has been fabulous. My 21st and my spring break rocked, and now it's coming to a closing. booohoooo. I did lots of shopping, yet I can't really wear most of my pieces because the weather out here is still not warm enough. It's not fair!!! Los Angeles in 6 weeks!

Ok, with all the shopping I did, I realized although New York is one of the most expensive cities to live in, it's the best place to get great stuff for a good price. I swear you'll look like a billion bucks in a $29.90 dollar dress with the right accessories. I must admit that it takes awareness and patience, and the cardinal rule: NEVER buy something that you like, only what you absolutely LOVE! If you do not follow this rule you will end up spending too much money, buying things you won't wear in the long run, and wasting time returning when you can be wearing. The end result will be just a total waste.

The trends of spring/summer is the next topic to examine. There are lots of fun trends to explore right now, and I will post a forum discussion based on this. I mean what really are the best trends this season? This season is where so much is thrown at you, and we're supposed to just jump on every trend...uh no not really. So we will be 'in the know' of what THE PEOPLE are really wearing or will wear. We don't have to adopt everything the designers and editors create and publish. We wear what we believe fits our individual style and body type. Ultimately we want to feel good and confident in what we wear.

I am thrilled right now. For one, this New York weather has improved (you would think so, since it's spring--but don't let that fool you), turning 21 on the 31st and Spring Break is almost here. What more can a LA girl ask for!?

Well before I dish about the unrecognized fashion world, I must reveal some of my feelings regarding a rerun of the Oprah show I saw on Friday.

The show's topic was Oprah & Gayle's Big Adventure--this is where they went on a road trip during the summer from Santa Barbara, California to New York. They met up with interesting people along the way. Friday, they stopped and chatted with a traditional Amish family and discussed their way of life, views and so forth.

It was so interesting because they lived so simply, and stated they they were "100% content". No TV. No radio. No modern amenities. All they do is read. The wife sews the family's clothing, and even still hang their clothes outside on the line to dry! This way of life is ancient to us. I could not imagine not having my ridiculously active blackberry attached to me (even though sometimes I'll leave it behind because I don't feel like being bothered that day). But I loved how they were 100% content. It really drilled into me that we do NOT NEED a lot of what we think we need. Especially to be happy. I was without my computer for a couple of months, because I spilled water on it and had to get it repaired. And honestly I liked not having it. Not being so damned attached to my computer--to technology in general was freedom, but at first I thought it was the end of the world. Are you content? What really makes you happy? I mean REALLY? Something to think about.

Enough of the deep stuff. Time for fashion.

A couple of clothing lines I came across that I felt were fun and worth writing about were Shmack clothing and Kidrobot.

Schmack clothing is a retro/skate line. It's stuff is funky and full of color, which I personally like. They sell tees, hoodies, denim and hats. Two friends started this line in Virginia and soon started booming in little boutiques and skate shops, and is also sold in Japan. They even have their own skate team! Which is pretty frickin' cool! They 're clothing is an eclectic mix, and currently this style is extremely hot like fire right now.

Next on the list is Kidrobot. This company was founded by designer Paul Budnitz in 2002. Now, this company is very interesting because besides apparel, they sell limited-edition toys, mini-figures, artwork and books. Kidrobot products feature exclusive collaborations with famous artists from backgrounds of graffiti, fine art, industrial design, graphic design, illustration and music from the likes of Frank Kozik, TILT, Dalek and David Flores. With Kidrobot--your pieces are investments.

Honestly, Shmack and Kidrobot sell some of the most eccentric and creative hoodies I've ever seen. And in a day where all kinds of hoodie designers are out there, it is really difficult to stand out amongst the rest.

What is free, can be found online and full of art, fashion and photography?

Flannelmag.

Fannelmag, recently launched in February is a free bi-annual online magazine that encompasses photography, art, design, music, fashion and lifestyle. The beautiful aspect of the magazine is the graphic design. You can flip through the magazine online with a swipe of the mouse, as if it were a hard copy right in front of you. It's edgy and innovative in its portrayal of street fashion and high fashion.

In my opinion, Flannelmag is a great source of inspiration. As read in a release, it seems this magazine will hold no bars. It is open to all opinions, music genres, personalities, feminine, masculine, hard rock, R&B-- doesn't matter. It has a transcultural vibe to it like Trace Magazine.

The theme of it's very first issue is "Eventually It Will Heal." When I first read this, I thought, "hmm...that's a little dark for a first issue." But the editor says in Note From the Editor, "The theme is born out of confidence in recovering from setbacks and adopting necessary to changes to move on." I must say this is a "so sick" line. Something to apply to your everday.

While doing some research, I found this UK designer by the name of Sara Berman. She has a fresh take on fashion and really knows how to mix and match pieces/styles that harmoniously fit together.

She studied at the acclaimed St. Martins College of Art and Design in London. Her own label Sara Berman is in it's ninth season. Before launching her own line, she worked for many designers, one being Armani.

Here at FIT, to get credit for your internship, you have to take an internship class, which so far has been very helpful and interesting. Most students that I have talked to didn't like the internship program, but it has been a great tool for me. Since I am raving about it, I'd thought I'd share the information passed down to me. We had a guest speaker by the name of Trina Morris, who is a publicity guru and has her own company called, Style Root, Inc.

She is a very impressive woman who has worn many hats and seizes every opportunity that comes her way--to only make her well-rounded and an in-the-know human being. We like that!

Background:
She has worked for global industry leaders, including: Saks Fifth Avenue, Fashion Group International, Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR Group) and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has worked with high-profile names like Star Jones, Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek, renowned designer Catherine Malandrino, über stylists June Ambrose and Patti Wilson, and international megabrands, Diesel and Swatch.

Her infectious personality and enthusiasm really inspired me and gave me hope. Here are some insightful industry tips she shared:

*Start buliding relationships becaue you'll never know who you will need or vice versa. It's a give and take thing.

*Be outgoing! (professionally and personally fit!!)

*Don't ever understimate minute opportunities.

*Volunteer and keep interning. It doesn't stop after you graduate. (sad to say, but true--gotta be ahead of the curve.)

*Develop YOUR media voice- YOUR BRAND!

*Know your industry- keep educating yourself and again be ahead of the game.

*Always always always keep updating your resume.

*Be creative about getting your foot in the door.

*Develop your network of people- EMERGING NETWORK

*MOST IMPORTANT: You must pull back from your main focus and research all of the people or jobs that are used to make that focus happen--and tap into it.

An event has come to my attention for Saturday, February 24, although I cannot attend, I thought I must share. It's a Fashion Forum February Event held at Alderton House (Cultural Center) in New York on 117 East 70th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenue.

There will be a board of three young professionals in the fashion industry come and revea; about their careers.

Panel:
Trish- works at ANTHOPOLOGIE on their window displays

Isa- works for high-end hat designer, ROD KEENAN (he does hats for Justin Timberlake, etc...)

Madeleine- works at OPENING CERMONY, a SoHo boutique (where the new Proenza Schouler for Target is being released)

it's $10 to get in and there will be REFRESHMENTS and SNACKS. There will also be a RAFFLE, as usual. You automatically enter when you come!

The best way to get there is to take the 6 to 68th street, walk up two blocks, and then make a left on 70th.

For Some background (So you know what you are getting yourselves into jk jk):

One day, a couple of fabulous 20 year olds volunteered at a conference a few years ago where Oscar de la Renta and a few other designers and industry folk spoke. The only thing was that it was for older women.

So, these young ladies decided to begin the Fashion Forum about two years ago for women 18-25 interested in the fashion business. They hold events and panel discussions about once a month, and the $10 is to hlep them keep this entity growing. In addition, they want to be able to afford an all day conference at the end of the year!

Us young people are really talented and way ahead of the game in innovation. The past week I have come across some new growing websites that I believe will be huge one day! It's important that we use the talents God gives us and exploit (for good!) them to their full potential. It's ok to be great. Please Remember that!

Ok, so there is this site called Can I Wear It, and it's awesome. Basically, anyone can sign up for free and post up your potential outfit concerns and others can comment on whether it's hot or not. People can also provide suggestions. And the website logo is CIWI. I love that name, and the website is fricking genius! Let's say your boyfriend/girlfriend usually isn't dressed "appropriately," steer them to Can I Wear it, and it's a perfect tool before a date!

Launched just yesterday--Huggaman.com, a website created by my friend who attends FIT. He is a Computer animation major and Huggman is a urban/hip hop cartoon. The website includes music and other components which will becoming soon. It's really fabulous. After you see the characters, you're wondering what will happen next. Although, it's still "in the process," hopefully a network will pick up Huggaman.

Another young and fabulous start-up is Ultimate Price. It is a discount shopping website where you can buy different products from fragrances to Cameras. It seems like a great spot to save money.

So that's a wrap up of the websites that kept coming my way. I hope this inspires everyone, because all these people are in their 20s! Current Weather Conditions: HOT= Fashion Week!!

As you all know Fashion Week started last week and it's really exciting to see what is happening in fashion for fall of 2007 here in New York. Any students who ooze with excitement when viewing the ruway shots on style.com should definitely volunteer for fashion week. You still have 2 mores days left, so hurry because you might be able to help out! A specific company I know of that specicialzies in fashion show productions, and is always looking for help for the fashion weeks is Ground Crew. I volunteered for the Spring 2007 James Coviello show through FIT by way of Ground Crew. And let me tell you, it's a lot of standing around and it's a lot running around, and sometimes long hours. BUT, it is great when you get to see the show. It's simply fabulous. For future reference, make sure you contact Ground Crew a couple of months ahead of time. It's a first come first serve basis. Volunteers are knocking on the door anxiously awaiting to work a show, and there are the "regulars " [volunteers].

P.S. If production is your field of study, this is a great opportunity!

Now, since there is fashion week, then of course there are fashion week parties. Of course, most students are not able to go to the industry parties unless you know somebody--and even if you do, you have to be over 21. So, I have been buzzed with some party info for this Saturday and I'd thought I'd share. It seems to be a good opportunity for up and coming fashion industry peeps to get together and shmooze.

Last, but not least, DKNY! DKNY really impressed me this season. The pieces are fabulous and is so "in the present." Here are some of my favorites:

O yea..I almost forgot, Sometimes I"ll post some REALLY awesome beauty product or tip. It will only be if i feel it's awesome.

Since the winter here is so bitter as I inhale my lungs are immediately frozen, here is an excellent hand cream. Although it doesn't cure frozen lungs, it cures very dry hands. Since I go to Fashion Institute of Technology and have a really good GPA, I hear through word of mouth...get snail mail sent to me...emails of information going on at different schools. So, I decided to share with the public this information regarding Parsons here in New York City.

The New School is now offering AAS in Fashion Marketing. This is exciting, not only beacause I enjoy it, but there is actually a degree one can get specifically for FASHION MARKETING. This area is increasingly becoming a hot carreer path, and Parsons recognized that. The program delves into design, global marketing, merchandising, color theories and other classes that really help the student gain knowledge in Fashion Marketing. This major seems perfect for the designer who is looking for that business sense. As well as for the marketer who wants to focus soley on fashion, and a merchandiser!
